Why This Announcement Matters to You
✔️ Access to Insurance Benefits You Already Pay For
Healthcare is expensive—we get it. If you have a health plan with Blue Cross, BCN, or Medicare Plus Blue, you’ll finally be able to use your insurance for qualifying medical weight loss office visits at Life IV Weight Loss. That means less financial stress and more focus on your wellness goals.
✔️ Expanded Coverage for Eligible Clients
Beginning in August 2025, eligible clients covered under these plans can schedule their visits knowing they’re seeing a participating, in-network provider. This can significantly reduce out-of-pocket costs, eliminate surprise bills, and streamline your billing experience.
🏥 Who This Applies To
If you carry any of the following insurance plans, this update is for you:
- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM)
- Blue Care Network (HMO-style plans)
- Medicare Plus Blue PPO
Note: Plan coverage and exclusions may vary. Not all services may be covered under every plan. Please verify your specific benefits directly with your insurance provider or through your member portal.
💡 Quick Facts: What’s Covered (and What’s Not)
✅ Covered:
- Initial and Follow-Up Office Visits
- Weight Management Consultations
- In-Person and Virtual Visit Options (Depending on Plan)
- Clinical Evaluations by Nurse Practitioners
❌ Not Covered:
- Weight Loss Medications
While office visits may be billable to insurance, the cost of GLP-1 medications like Semaglutide or Tirzepatide is not typically covered unless you qualify through your prescription benefit and prior authorization process.
⚠️ Important Notes About BCN (Blue Care Network)
Many clients with Blue Care Network (BCN) plans are enrolled in HMO-style plans that require a referral from your Primary Care Provider (PCP) before seeing a specialist. Since Life IV Weight Loss is considered a specialty care provider, we cannot see BCN patients without a valid referral if your plan requires one.
What this means for you:
- Contact your PCP’s office to request a referral before your appointment.
- The referral must be processed in the insurance system before your visit.
- Without a referral, your appointment will not be covered and will default to self-pay.
Check your insurance card or member portal to determine if a referral is required for your plan.
🗓️ What Happens in August 2025?
Starting in August 2025, our in-network status with these insurers becomes active. At that time:
- You can provide your insurance card during booking or at check-in.
- We will bill the insurance provider directly for qualifying visits.
- Your copay, deductible, or coinsurance (if applicable) will be due at the time of service.
Our billing team will also be available to assist with:
- Insurance verifications
- Eligibility checks
- Copay and deductible estimates
💬 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can I use my insurance now?
Not quite yet! Coverage begins August 1, 2025. Any visits before that date remain self-pay or out-of-network, depending on your plan.
Q: Will insurance cover my Semaglutide, Tirzepatide, or other GLP-1 medications?
Not automatically. These medications are typically considered a pharmacy benefit, not a medical visit. Many plans require:
- Prior authorization
- BMI qualifications
- Documented weight-related conditions
We’ll help you navigate the process, but approval is not guaranteed.
Q: I have a Medicare Advantage plan. Does that count?
If your plan is Medicare Plus Blue PPO, yes! You’ll be covered for eligible visits.
Q: Will this affect current clients?
Existing clients are automatically switched to using their insurance once in-network coverage begins. Due to insurance contractual requirements we cannot allow clients with an insurance we can bill to pay self-pay pricing. We are contractually (legally) required to bill your insurance even if we know it will be denied. This may result in higher out-of-pocket costs.
